In addition to my work as a theatre maker and performer, I also work primarily as an early years drama workshop facilitator.

Work Experience

These workshops involved supporting Lisa as the lead artist in any way possible, leading warm up games, help demonstrating and explaining, guidance to the participants throughout the workshop and ensuring behavior was kept maintained.

Townhead Village Hall/Toonspeak Young People’s Theatre

Workshop Assistant for a Bronze Arts award week

Following my training at Toonspeak earlier in the year, Rachel Smith contacted me with the offer of coming in as a young leader on this bronze arts award obtainment week with a group of local young people. This week involved me leading warm up games and providing the group with a younger leader and link, as I too was taking part in all of the tasks to obtain my own arts award but also giving the group guidance and reassurance in drama based tasks.

Jan 2014 – Present

Tron Theatre

Youth theatre

From Jan-June 2014 I was workshop assistant for Tall Tales and P1-3 Skillshops with Katrina Caldwell, stepping in to lead the workshops on occasion. From April-June 2014, I also assisted in the P4-7 and S1-2 Skillshops with Deborah McArthur in the lead up to their show, “But Why?” August-Dec 2014 I assisted in the P1-3 Skillshops with Deborah McArthur and as off January this year I will began leading these sessions myself.

March 2014

Interchange 2014, Aberdeen

I attended this years interchange weekend through the Tron Theatre and my involvement in the Tron Young Company show, “Subject To Change,” as it was chosen to perform as part of YTAS’ chrysalis scheme. In addition to performing we took part in an 8 hour, un-facilitated workshop with Aberdeen Performing Arts (APA) in which we were given no stimulus or direction and had to come up with a performance to show at the end of the day. This workshop was very enriching for me as APA are a few years younger than us and without realising it I stepped into my facilitation role and found myself subtly facilitating the group. After the performance, members of APA and my own group commended me on doing so and thanked me for stepping up to lead. This has since given me confidence with upper secondary age groups.

August 2014

Tron Skillshops development week

Over a week in August, I was heavily involved in a development week focused on rewriting all the Tron’s participation workshops from Tiny Tales right up to S3-S6 skillshops. This was an intensive week of development, not only for these workshops but also my own understanding of how these things work and the multitude of ways props can be used and tasks can be adapted. Over the five days we wrote 150 workshops that have already been put into practice by my peers and myself.

Sept 2014

More Singing for Starters: Developing Musical Skills with

Children aged 5-7yrs, Glasgow City Halls.

In September of this year I was granted a place on this early years music skills course at Glasgow city halls. The course explored teaching young children music skills and how to use music and instruments to enhance other non-music based workshops.

Oct 2014

North Lanarkshire Council

XL Kickstart Employability Workshop

Workshop assistant in puppet-making workshops with Kirsty McCabe as part of a North Lanarkshire council’s employability initiative, XL Kickstart Employability. These workshops, which offered a host of arts platforms, are delivered to young people in the North Lanarkshire area who are at risk of being expelled or suspended from school for a variety of reasons. The workshops involved supporting Kirsty throughout the sessions in whichever way was needed, from explaining the task, giving guidance and ideas to keeping the room engaged in the task at hand.

Nov 2014

St Peters Nursery, Paisely.

Workshop Assistant for a one off workshop supporting Deborah McArthur in a superhero themed “Tall Tale.” My role included planning the workshop, setting up, helping to deliver the story, encouraging the young people in the tasks and assisting in anything that may arise through out the workshop.

Nov 2014

School Pantomime Workshops

Eastbank Primary and Quarry Brae Primary.

Workshop Assistant to Deborah McArthur in two one off Pantomime themed workshops.

These workshops involved taking part in the warm up and leading exercises when the classes were split into two groups. The main workshop activity involved the class being spilt into four groups and each group was given a different pantomime synopsis and had to recreate their own scene(s) from their chosen panto. My role involved co-facilitating with Deborah, going round the groups and encouraging and helping them with ideas or staging when needed.

Jan 2015-present

Rosshall Academy

Workshop Assistant to Martin O'Connor

The Tron Theatre developed a series of new workshops for schools based on their “Progressive Playwright” scheme. This initiative, led by Martin O’Connor, is being brought to Rosshall Academy for a term and I am assisting for the duration of these workshops, exploring playwriting, drama skills and production support. The project is being funded by Sense over Sectarianism and the plays produced will be performed in The Tron Theatre during a week of work exploring sectarianist themes.
